The Encompass Championship presented by CareerBuilder will be celebrating its second year at North Shore Country Club June 16-22. The tournament once again is already attracting one of the strongest fields on the Champions Tour schedule.

Joining defending champion Craig Stadler will be World Golf Hall of Fame members Hale Irwin, Bernhard Langer, Larry Nelson and Sandy Lyle. Langer recently won his 20th career title on the Champions Tour, becoming the 10th player to accomplish the feat.

In addition to this group, past major champions such as Mark Calcavecchia, Corey Pavin, Jeff Sluman, Mark O’Meara, Steve Elkington and Bob Tway are scheduled to compete.

The celebrity portion of the field is also attracting interest from some of the area’s popular athletes as well as those nationally. Currently, Roger Clemens, Chris Collins, Mike Eruzione, Toni Kukoc, Jeremy Roenick and Brian Urlacher are scheduled to compete.

The Encompass Championship will feature a Pro-Am format where Champions Tour professionals partner with amateurs and celebrities on Friday and Saturday for an event-within-the-event competition. The 81 Champions Tour professionals will also compete in a traditional 54-hole, stroke-play format for the individual title and prize money. Prior to the official competition, a Wednesday and Thursday Pro-Am will also be conducted.

In addition, Encompass Championship Charities announced the focus of its charitable giving for 2014 will be Chicago-area young people, and named four outstanding youth-oriented organizations as beneficiaries of this year’s tournament. The youth organizations are: Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund, Junior Achievement of Chicago, JDRF and The First Tee of Greater Chicago.

Birdies for Charity, a program coordinated by the Encompass Championship, is a unique way for nonprofits to raise funds through the Encompass Championship golf tournament. This is the inaugural year for the Birdies for Charity program at the Encompass Championship, and our goal is to raise money for local North Shore charities. The program runs in conjunction with the Encompass Championship, which takes place June 16-22, 2014.

Birdies for Charity is a nationwide program and the success of this program continues to grow each year. This program is designed to create new ways for charitable organizations to raise funds through the Encompass Championship. Money is raised based on donations for every birdie made at the 2014 Encompass Championship or through straight pledges.

Tournament officials and club officials also announced North Shore Country Club will remain the host of the Encompass Championship presented by CareerBuilder through 2015.
