Bernhard Langer Encompass2015 Encompass Championship
North Shore Country Club, Glenview, Illinois
July 6-12, 2015

The 2015 Encompass Championship returns for the third year with its unique Pro-Am format to North Shore Country Club and the greater Chicago area on July 6-12. This unique and fun Pro-Am format will be played during the first two rounds of competition on Friday and Saturday pairing all 81 Champions Tour professionals with celebrities and amateurs. Sunday’s final round will see Champions Tour professionals competing for the individual title and the $1.9 million dollar purse.

Encompass Championship Charities has designated four outstanding youth-oriented organizations as beneficiaries of this year’s tournament that are focused on improving the lives of young people and, by extension, the future of our community and our country. They are JDRF Illinois Chapter, Junior Achievement of Chicago, The First Tee of Greater Chicago and Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund.

Some of the most recognized names in golf, including World Golf Hall of Fame members Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer (2014 Champions Tour Player of the Year), and Nick Price, are expected to return to the Encompass Championship in 2015.  Major champions and fan favorites such as Tom Lehman (2014 Champion), Jeff Sluman, Chip Beck, Fred Couples, John Cook, Fred Funk, Jay Haas, Corey Pavin, Kenny Perry, Rocco Mediate and Steve Elkington are also expected to return.

A year after Craig Stadler drained a 12-foot par-saving putt to win the 2013 Encompass Championship, Tom Lehman duplicated the feat in 2014, sinking a 12-footer for a birdie to give him a one-stroke victory over Kirk Triplett and Michael Allen. Lehman, who started the day with a three-shot lead over a trio of players, was unable to build on his lead early on, as Triplett and Allen climbed to within on stroke at the turn. Lehman appeared to be on the ropes after consecutive bogeys on Nos. 13 and 14, the second costing him his lead. However, he closed with birdies on three of his final four holes for the win.  Playing one group in front of the Lehman-Triplett-Inman group, Allen had posted a score of 14-under setting the stage for the exciting finish. After Triplett missed his birdie opportunity from 22 feet, Lehman drained the winner to head off a playoff

About the Champions Tour

Collectively, the Champions Tour has the most recognizable and accomplished players in the game with many of its 32 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame competing regularly in its events and numerous other major championship winners among its members. The Champions Tour is a membership organization of professional golfers age 50 and older. Conceived in 1980 as the Senior PGA Tour, it started with just four events and purses totaling $475,000.

In 2014, tournaments on all five Tours (PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, Web.com Tour, PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, and PGA TOUR Canada) were slated to surpass the $2 billion mark for an all-time TOUR total in charitable contributions.

The Champions Tour’s primary purpose is to provide financial opportunities for its players, entertain and inspire its fans, deliver substantial value to its partners, create outlets for volunteers to give back, protect the integrity of the game and generate significant charitable and economic impact in communities in which it plays.
