By Julie Suh, President, EWGA Chicago Metro Chapter

Attention Women Golfers! Are you looking to play more golf?  Join a golf league?  Improve your game?  Play competitive golf?  Meet other golfers?  Expand your business and social network?  EWGA is the answer!

EWGA is an international women’s golf association, with chapters in more than 100 major cities in the U.S. plus international locations.  EWGA is comprised of a broad range of golfers from beginners to experienced players, including accomplished, interesting professional women from a collection of diverse backgrounds.

The EWGA Chicago Metro Chapter is one of EWGA’s largest and most active chapters, with over 350 members and growing.  We offer 25+ weekday evening and weekend leagues, as well as numerous golf events, golf education events, and social events.

At the national level, EWGA conducts several competitive golf tournaments, including the EWGA Championship, a 3-stage tournament with stroke and scramble divisions; the EWGA Cup, a 2-stage team match play tournament; and the EWGA Par 3 Challenge, a Four-Ball stroke play tournament.  EWGA also hosts an annual conference, filled with opportunities to learn and grow, meet industry icons, and of course, play lots of golf!  I look forward to attending this year’s conference, EWGA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, later this month in Colonial Williamsburg – perhaps even meeting the legendary Nancy Lopez, who is being honored.

Membership in EWGA also provides benefits such as access to the EWGA golf handicap system; a subscription to Golf Magazine; and discounts on greens fees, apparel, equipment, and travel.  Ultimately, EWGA membership is about playing golf and about friendships.

EWGA has become an important part of my life.  I joined EWGA at a golf store “Ladies Night” where EWGA happened to be recruiting.  I had taken some golf lessons, and played golf occasionally, but I wasn’t a confident golfer.  I wanted to play golf more regularly and improve my game, and EWGA was the perfect solution.  That year, I joined one of EWGA’s weekday evening 9-hole leagues for advanced beginners.  The next year, I changed to a traveling weekend 18-hole league for intermediate golfers.  The year after that, I signed up to compete in the Chapter Championship, my first competitive golf event ever.  2 years after that, I won the chapter’s “Biggest Handicap Loser Challenge” for most improved player.  Along the way, I developed great friendships with other women who love the game of golf as much as I do.  I’ve received many benefits from being a part of this organization.  Nowadays, I am in two EWGA leagues, play 2 to 3 rounds a week during the golf season, and travel to warmer climes with my EWGA golf buddies when Chicago is too cold.

As chapter president, I want to make sure that our members and potential members have the opportunity to enjoy the EWGA as much as I have.   To that end, I am pleased to announce the first ever EWGA Chicago Metro Women’s Invitational on June 12, 2016 at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont.  Open to amateur women golfers of all skill levels, the Invitational offers 3 options: Stroke Play (5 Flights); Competitive Scramble; and Fun Scramble.  USGA handicap is required for Stroke Play and Competitive Scramble.  This is a great opportunity to experience tournament golf in a FUN environment, and to learn all about the EWGA.  Registration is open through June 3 at www.ewgachicago.org under Events.  We hope you will join us!
