15 NCAA Teams Compete at Historic Medinah CC October 8-9, 2018

Medinah, Ill.– The University of Illinois Women’s Golf Team will host the Illini Women’s Invitational October 8-9 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.  This marks the first tournament hosted by the Fighting Illini since the 2008 Illini Spring Classic in Urbana, Ill. 15 teams will be participating in the event in a 54-hole stroke play format. The Big 10 Conference will be well represented with four conference teams competing: Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

Competition begins on Monday October 8 with an 8:30am CDT shotgun start to begin 36 holes of play. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, October 9 after a 9:00am shotgun start.  All three rounds will be played on Medinah’s recently renovated Course No.2.

“We are extremely excited to be hosting this premier event at one of the most renowned private clubs in the country,” said Renee Slone, head women’s golf coach at the University of Illinois. “The elite field is sure to provide an exciting competition and a strong test of skill on the newly designed Course 2,” Slone added.

Course No. 2 underwent renovation and reopened in June 2017, after restoration of the course to its original style and character. The Tom Bendelow design received upgrades to its infrastructure including USGA greens, new bunkers, and bent grass fairways. With seven sets of tee markers, the newly designed Course No.2 places Medinah at the forefront of the “Golf For Life” developmental program that aims to ensure golf is playable for all ages and ability levels.
