Heron Bay Golf Club
Coral Springs, Florida
It is very possible that VJ Singh's driver into Heron Bay Golf Club's 15th hole, a 222-yard par three, was one of golf's all time greatest shots ever made to take the lead in a final round of a PGA TOUR event. Yes, you read that right, driver. Needless to say VJ was hitting into a slight breeze. Of course he made his birdie putt and went on to win over a wind-blown field.
When PGA TOUR Pro and architect Mark McCumber started the design process of what was to be known as the TPC at Heron Bay, he knew of the conditions that can arise in South Florida and he designed the course accordingly. Keeping the ball in play is expected at Heron Bay, keeping it out of traps is not. The course is a course management aficionado's dream. Play smart off the tee and you may shoot your best score ever. If you just bang away off each tee box, bring a towel and some sun screen because you'll feel like you spent your whole day at the beach.
For those of you who have already had the pleasure of playing this nationally-ranked course, you will be delighted to know that new ownership took over in February 2007 and has already refurbished the clubhouse and surpassed TPC course conditions which were top of the line.
